We’re looking for a Senior Lead Government Affairs EU & UK. Based at our Paddington site, you will engage externally with government officials, MPs, MEPs and trade associations to support Urenco’s commercial objectives. The role will primarily support the UK and EU Directors of Government Affairs in the development and delivery of government affairs strategies and stakeholder engagement activities, while ensuring the effective transfer of intelligence, analysis and policy insights to senior internal stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have strong political acumen and stakeholder management skills, with an understanding of the geopolitical, regulatory, and policy factors shaping the energy sector. They will have an established knowledge of the EU institutions and Brussels policy making environment, as well as Whitehall, Parliament and the wider UK political landscape. The role requires the ability to anticipate, analyse and interpret political, legislative and regulatory developments, providing clear strategic advice to senior business leaders on their implications for Urenco’s operations and commercial objectives.

Experience of working in or closely with the Brussels policy environment would be a significant advantage.

What You’ll Do
  • To proactively engage on behalf of Urenco to shape policy development and new laws and regulations and political debates which touch on nuclear, energy policy, and URENCO in general.
  • To provide updates to internal stakeholders (including to draft and present political reports to the Board) and to draft position papers for use with external stakeholders.
  • To work closely and collaboratively with URENCO colleagues, especially in Communications, Legal, Commercial, and Government Affairs, and external advisers.
  • To analyse developments relating to energy policy, industrial strategy, trade, geopolitics, non-proliferation, export controls, and nuclear regulation, translating these into business recommendation
  • To learn and understand the various nuclear regulations that interact with Urenco’s business in the UK and the EU and to be able to work with the commercial teams to support their compliance.
  • To deliver and provide input to EU wide government affairs projects, including REPowerEU
  • Establish a creative, engaging, and proactive integrated external communications plan, including that the company’s public relations efforts in the EU are cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting the overall mission and strategic goals.
  • Advocate Urenco’s position through, among other means, meetings with industry stakeholders, representing the company at key forums and events and working with allied organisations and stakeholders to advance Urenco’s interests.
  • Draft position papers, consultation responses, political updates, briefing notes, speeches, and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including Board-level reporting.
  • Raise the profile of the company through project managing events (in-person, virtual and hybrid), securing high profile speaking opportunities and preparing keynote presentations and speeches. Promote the need for research and evaluation of communications activities, analysing the results and driving improvement and best practice.
What do you need to thrive in this role?
  • Experience working in Brussels and/or working in an international company (managing cross-border matters and projects) is helpful.
