As a Fraud Investigations Officer, you will play a key role in identifying, investigating and preventing fraud across the Southwest London Fraud Partnership. You will manage a varied caseload of investigations, gathering evidence, analysing complex information and helping to ensure that public money is used appropriately and responsibly.

You will be joining the Southwest London Fraud Partnership which offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of fraud prevention and investigation across multiple London boroughs. You will be part of a supportive and professional team committed to protecting public resources, developing investigative excellence and delivering positive outcomes for local communities.

You will join a collaborative fraud service that supports multiple local authorities across Southwest London, helping to safeguard valuable resources and maintain public trust. Working alongside experienced investigators, public sector partners and external agencies, you will contribute to the prevention, detection and investigation of fraud affecting local government services.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your investigative expertise, work on complex and varied cases, and contribute to a service committed to protecting communities and delivering value for residents.

About the Role

As the postholder you need to have knowledge and some experience of civil and criminal investigations and investigation procedures to progress their own portfolio of cases, being able to work within any of our partner locations. A key to our success has been maintaining good working relationships with all partners. Effective communications skills and an understanding of how to liaise with different groups, ranging from service teams to Members, Directors and Senior Officers, is required.

Knowledge requirements:

  • Key legislation
  • Investigative techniques
  • Understanding of the differences between civil and criminal investigations

Skills requirement:

  • Dealing with Challenge
  • Effective written/oral communication skills and ability to represent the fraud service
  • Demonstrable organisational and time management skills
  • Effective arithmetical and analytical skills
  • Work within fixed parameters but able to suggest changes in direction based upon evidence obtained

To succeed in this role, you will need a strong understanding of fraud investigation principles, evidence gathering techniques and relevant legislation, alongside the ability to analyse information, manage competing priorities and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • your knowledge and experience of civil and criminal investigations
  • your experiences of investigative interviewing
  • your understanding of and development input into to fraud prevention
  • explain when data analytics can be used to assist an investigation
  • English language and Mathematics GCSE Grade “C” or above (or equivalently)
  • Relevant fraud qualification and commitment to portfolio completion (for Grades SO.2 and above)
