Position: Private Rented Sector Officer
Location: City Of London

Good Afternoon,

I am currently representing Brent Council who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience

We are looking for a Private Rented Sector Officer this role will be based at: HA9 0FJ
- Hybrid

The right candidate will:
  • To assess all applicants who the council owes the full housing duty to determine what kind of accommodation would be suitable for the applicant and their household or anyone reasonably expected to live with the applicant. Review information and ensure that it is up to date and correct, do full income/expenditure assessments in respect to any case which is to be matched and discharged under a PRSO.
  • To make Private Rented Sector Offers to applicants under the Housing Act 1996 Part 7, the Localism Act 2011 and other relevant legislation as amended, to bring the council's statutory duty owed to the applicant to an end.
  • To write and issue statutory S184/193 decision letters and letters of notification to other authorities where an applicant is rehoused outside the area. To correspond with solicitors and other client representatives, and where applicable to provide a case summary to our legal services and give evidence in court if required.
  • To maintain an up to date knowledge of the different housing options available to service users seeking accommodation and systems of access to housing of all types including; the private rented sector, intermediate housing schemes, and hostels.
We require the following:
  • Experience of giving advice and information to vulnerable customers and working in a busy front line customer focused environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Housing Act 1996, Part 6 & 7, as amended, housing needs issues, related legislation and case law.
  • Knowledge of the impact of the Localism Act 2011 and the ability to discharge duty to homeless households into the Private Rented Sector.
