Responsibilities
  • Receive, describe, and dispense items for forensic toxicology examination in line with company SOPs, and manage return and destruction of exhibits.
  • Assist with administrative duties of the Toxicology team and provide support for scientific activities where relevant.
  • Interact effectively within the team, demonstrate excellent attention to detail, and manage and organise your own tasks while supporting others.
  • Understand the needs of internal and external customers to enhance the reputation of Eurofins Forensic Services.
  • Coordinate the receipt, return and transfer of items submitted for forensic examination, ensuring chain of custody and item integrity in line with SOPs.
  • Analyse customer details to identify which discipline and location cases should be managed in line with SOPs.
  • Describe contents of exhibits accurately in line with laboratory SOPs and dispense samples ready for laboratory analysis.
  • Report cases of compromised items/cases as detailed in SOPs; prioritise submissions based on urgency and turnaround time (TAT) to support timely examination and reporting.
  • Ensure safe handling of hazardous and sensitive items, including those covered by the Human Tissue Act.
  • Adhere to anti-contamination procedures and maintain records for compliance.
  • Proactively complete general office duties and handle enquiries from customers, either directly or through colleagues within the team.
  • Ensure statements/reports are delivered to customers as outlined in protocols; provide scientific support to the reporting team as appropriate.
  • Manage court warnings and charging on behalf of Reporting Officers.
Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with customers and colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Experience with LIMS or a database system is advantageous but not essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in an administrative role, preferably in a scientific or professional environment.
  • High level of confidentiality and discretion due to sensitive nature of work.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive approach; ability to multi-task and prioritise.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, pressured environment with strict deadlines; patience, determination and integrity.
  • Problem-solving skills and flexibility to manage varying workloads and working hours.
Additional Information

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, security clearance is required. Applicants must have five years of continuous UK residency. Security clearance is undertaken by a third party to police vetting standards (NPPV/3 and SC); some criminal convictions may prevent clearance. Drug and alcohol testing is required prior to commencing employment.
