We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist 0.8 WTE for 12 months on a secondment due to maternity leave, to join Kingston CAMHS. We are an established Tier 3/Getting More Help service that supports children, young people, and their families with moderate to severe mental health difficulties. Our MDT service includes psychiatry, psychology, family therapy, and nursing.
The service offers assessments and evidence‑based interventions for children and young people, including formulation, a range of therapeutic approaches, and recommendations or signposting to partner organisations.
We seek a Clinical Psychologist enthusiastic and passionate about working with a range of clients in a friendly service. Our team prioritises staff wellbeing with weekly wellbeing slots, monthly reflective practice, away days, regular CPD, and systemic group supervision monthly.
This role is as a senior psychologist to support assessment, therapy, supervision, and teaching. We consider applications from Band 7 or Band 8a professionals.
Main duties of the job- Provide psychological assessment, formulation, and therapy to individuals and groups.
- Contribute to teaching, supervision, service development projects, research, and audit.
- Receive clinical and professional supervision from an experienced Clinical Psychologist.
- Supervise Band 7 Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, and trainees on placement subject to experience.
- Participate in integrated working across the South London Partnership.
- Provide specialist assessments of young children and parents/carers using complex data, structured observations, and semi‑structured interviews in line with IAPT methodology.
- Formulate and implement evidence‑based interventions to improve parent/child relationships.
- Deliver a range of psychotherapeutic interventions individually and in synthesis, maintaining provisional hypotheses and refining formulations.
- Make decisions about treatment options considering theoretical models and complex developmental factors.
- Exercise professional responsibility for assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients managed through standard care plans.
- Provide specialist mental health advice and guidance to other professionals contributing to care.
- Use evidence‑based integrated working tools to ensure holistic and coordinated services.
- Undertake risk assessment and risk management for young children and parents/carers.
- Communicate sensitive information about assessment, formulation, and treatment plans to parents/carers.
- Monitor progress and evaluate interventions according to CYP IAPT minimum dataset standards.
- Maintain accurate health care records according to Trust policy and Information Governance.
- Demonstrate high‑level communication skills, both written and verbal, within all agencies.
- Demonstrable experience working with children and young people in community settings.
- Experience of multi‑disciplinary team working.
- Experience of inter‑agency working.
- Experience of safeguarding and Child Protection.
- Experience of leading case reviews.
- Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
- Qualified Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC as an applied psychologist.
- Training as part of a CYP IAPT collaborative in a recognised evidence‑based approach.
- Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management requiring sustained concentration.
- Specialist knowledge of child and family development.
- Ability to work with children of all ages.
- Knowledge of evidence‑based therapeutic tools.
- Competence in at least one form of evidence‑based psychological therapy.
- In‑depth knowledge of safeguarding and Child Protection.
- Skills in risk assessment and management.
- Knowledge of communities of ethnic and racial diversity.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a DBS check.
Other Information£61,631 to £68,623 a year (inclusive of Outer London HCAs)
