Would you like to work in a Dynamic Practice?
We are looking for a GP receptionist to serve as the public face of our medical practice, managing patient interactions and a wide range of administrative tasks. The role demands strong organisational and communication skills to ensure the smooth operation of the surgery and a positive experience for patients.
Key Responsibilities- Greet patients and visitors, and direct them in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Book new and follow‑up appointments, often using clinical IT systems.
- Manage patient check‑in and check‑out procedures.
- Handle requests for repeat prescriptions.
- Act as the central point of contact for patients, doctors, and other staff, answering calls, taking accurate messages, and routing calls appropriately.
- Provide a calming presence for anxious or distressed patients.
- Maintain, file, and update patient medical records (physical and electronic).
- Process requests for home visits and hospital referrals.
- Use computer software for data entry, word processing, and retrieval of patient information such as test results.
- Handle practice correspondence, including incoming and outgoing mail and faxes.
- Take payments for private services and issue receipts.

The GP surgery is a busy, high‑pressure environment requiring multitasking and quick thinking. - Stressful interactions:
Interact regularly with patients who may be unwell, upset, or angry; calm, professional, and empathetic communication is essential. - Confidentiality:
Handle highly sensitive patient information with strict adherence to privacy policies. - Team collaboration:
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, liaising with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. - Flexible schedule:
Shifts may include early starts, late finishes, and extended hours to provide patient access.
- Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills, effective time management, and ability to multitask in a busy environment.
- Good computer skills, including proficiency with the practice's clinical system (TPP), word processing, and electronic communication tools.
- Attention to detail and meticulous record‑keeping.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and professional conduct.
- Teamwork:
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A good standard of GCSEs, especially in English and Maths.
- Some experience with computer systems and electronic filing; training may be provided.
- Familiarity with basic medical terminology and GP practice systems (e.g., Systm 1, Docman).
- Previous experience in a general practice or NHS environment is a plus.
