Radiology Department Assistant

Location: Euston

Our client, a leading private medical organisation based in Central London, provide cross-sectional diagnostic imaging services to both the NHS and private sector. We are working with them to recruit a Radiology Department Assistant (RDA).

The RDA will be an integral member of the radiographic team, and involved in the provision of diagnostic imaging services using MRI and CT scanning. You will be working closely with the diagnostic radiographers, doctors and administrative staff to support the imaging pathway.

As the RDA duties will include:

To participate in and support the provision of the MRI/CT scanning service on a daily shift basis by:

* Providing safe and effective care to patients and their families as appropriate to their needs and supporting the delivery of patient centred care during examinations and procedures.

* To liaise with medical and radiographic staff within the radiology department and outside of radiology to facilitate good workflow and prompt treatment of patients. The RDA role is integral to the efficient and effective flow of patients through the department.

* To undertake and assist with patient transfers as necessary, following Company safer handling policy and procedures and using approved handling aids and training as necessary.

* To contribute to routine clerical duties using approved IT systems in accordance with Company policy and procedures. This may involve assisting the administration team with tasks as required, including appointments, patient communications and maintenance of electronic patient records.

* To take responsibility for a daily check of the examination rooms, ensuring that they are tidy and have suitable stock available at the beginning of every shift.

* To maintain up to date stock lists for all recognised suppliers and lead on the ordering of consumables (although the identification of low stock is a shared responsibility within the entire clinical team).

* To undertake cold stream audit in accordance with the Company’s medicines management policy.

* To assist in the quality assurance programme for the department and take a leading role in an area of clinical governance, as agreed with the Operations Manager.

* To be responsible for own personal development and to satisfy mandatory training requirements as assessed and required by the Company.

* To maintain patient confidentiality.

* To ensure infection control procedures are always adhered to and to take part in related audit activity.

* To ensure a healthy and safe environment always exists in the department.

Qualification and

Skills:

Essential:

* A high standard of verbal and written English.

* Excellent timekeeping.

* Good IT literacy including use of email.

* Previous experience working in a patient or customer facing role.

* Good communication skills with people of all background including a professional telephone manner.

* Ability to accurately record date and information.

* Good team working and interpersonal skills.

* Good organisational skills.

* Ability to effectively and efficiently carry out tasks to meet the requirements of the service.

* To demonstrate compassionate care.

Desirable:

* Patient centred experience in an NHS or Private radiology department with prior experience of working within an MRI and/or CT environment.

* IV Cannulation or willing to train in

* Prior experience of assisting medical staff in sterile procedures.

* Experience of basic radiology nursing, taking and recording basic patient observations.

Hours:

Monday – Friday. Hours will mainly involve shifts of 9am-5pm but flexibility will be required when procedures are booked outside of these hours which can be 8am
-4pm or 10am – 6pm.
