Overview

HR Officer – Full‑time, effective September
2026. This position supports the entire human resources function of a Wandsworth secondary school, working closely with the principal and senior leadership team.

Key Duties
  • Act as the main HR liaison for the principal, handling staff recruitment, maintaining personnel information in Arbor, and implementing HR operational procedures such as sickness absence recording.
  • Administer payroll via the payroll portal, including monthly reporting and managing staff additional hours claims.
  • Carry out the full recruitment cycle: advertise, circulate recruitment packs, organise interview timetables, compile interview packs, and complete pre‑employment checks.
  • Issue offer letters, contracts, and update staff records for changes in role or hours.
  • Provide end‑to‑end support to line managers and senior leadership on HR matters such as TUPE, grievances, disciplinary cases, dismissals, redundancies, maternity/paternity, contractual and job description changes, sickness absence management, and capability procedures.
  • Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate staff records using ICT software and ensure the Single Central Record (SCR) is up to date, producing regular reports for review by senior leadership, governors, and Ofsted.
  • Collaborate with the Data Manager to ensure the annual School Workforce Return (SWR) is accurate and submitted on time.
  • Take minutes for meetings and disciplinary hearings, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Oversee visitor entry and exit procedures to comply with safeguarding requirements.
  • Manage new staff induction, probation meetings, and related administrative documentation.
  • Support line managers with sickness absence meetings and reporting.
Qualifications
  • Experience across a range of HR functions, including recruitment, payroll, and staff administration.
  • Strong organisational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, equitable and inclusive practices.
  • Proficiency with HR information systems and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Holds a valid DBS check or is willing to undergo one.
