Location: City Of London

Senior Project Delivery Manager

Contract type: Permanent Full Time

Location: London or Newcastle offices based with a minimum 2 days a week attendance in either office.

Salary: London £74,000;
Newcastle £62,900 plus civil service employee pension contribution of 28.9%

About the Job

The Senior Project Delivery Manager leads delivery of digital projects and work streams within the Digital Services team. The role reports to the Head of PMO or equivalent and operates in a matrix management environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management – Set up projects with NAO templates, maintain plans and controls, provide clear updates to management, raise concerns, issues and risks, and coordinate project teams.
  • Internal/External Relationships – Build effective relationships with DS management, Engagement & Change, Business Analysts, Test Leads, Delivery Managers, Programme/Project Boards, and external suppliers.
  • Resources Managed – No line‑management responsibilities; staff allocation depends on project size; manage external consultants and specialists as required and support project budgets and financial controls.
Project Delivery (95%)
  • Lead day‑to‑day management of Digital Services projects, defining scope, goals and deliverables.
  • Produce high‑quality project reporting and governance documentation.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets and forecasting.
  • Establish project controls (governance, risk, issue management).
  • Lead stakeholder communications, change management plans, and manage dependencies and timelines.
  • Coordinate delivery teams, delegate tasks, and ensure timely, cost‑effective delivery.
  • Capture lessons learned and share best practices.
  • Ensure solutions align with business needs, data architecture and relevant information.
Personnel Management (5%)
  • Provide timely, delivery‑focused feedback on project team contributions.
  • Support, coach and coordinate team members and contractors.
  • Delegate tasks and resolve issues within the project team.
Qualifications and Training
  • Formal training and experience in at least one modern software development lifecycle/methodology (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile) – essential.
Essential Experience
  • Delivering digital change initiatives and projects including infrastructure, cloud, or network related change.
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills for multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Experience planning, monitoring and reporting on projects using MS Project, Azure Dev Ops or similar.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience using Azure Dev Ops.
  • Experience in workshop facilitation.
Skills and Behaviours

  • Strong verbal and written communication, including presentation skills.
  • Clear articulation of project concepts and issues to technical and non‑technical staff.
