Job Responsibilities/Objectives

• Provide senior technical leadership across multiple digital services, defining and evolving architectural direction and roadmaps.
• Influence senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment on technical strategy and design decisions.
• Design and assure scalable, secure, and resilient architectures across cloud and legacy enterprise environments.
• Produce and maintain architectural artefacts including C4 models, data flows, and target-state architectures.
• Evaluate technology options across application, data, infrastructure, and security domains to support strategic decision-making.
• Ensure architectural consistency through principles, standards, and governance across delivery teams.
• Mentor engineers and architects, contributing to capability development and architectural community growth.
• Support end-to-end delivery across discovery, build, and transition phases while balancing strategic and delivery needs.

Required Skills/

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Proven experience as a Technical Architect or Solution Architect in complex, enterprise-scale environments.
• Strong systems-thinking ability with experience working across sociotechnical systems and multiple teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with ability to influence senior technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong understanding of modern architecture patterns (e.g. microservices, APIs, distributed systems).
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (ideally AWS), including core infrastructure, networking, and security services.
• Strong knowledge of secure and resilient system design, including authentication, threat modelling, and observability.
• Experience with modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and containerisation.
• Ability to design and document architectures using techniques such as C4, UML, and data flow diagrams.
• Good understanding of data integration, API design, and messaging patterns.
• Experience working across the full delivery lifecycle in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable Skills/

Experience:

• Experience with enterprise ERP platforms (e.g., Oracle E-Business Suite).
• Knowledge of UK government digital service standards, architecture frameworks, and assurance processes.
• Understanding of Domain-Driven Design or event-driven architectural approaches.
• Exposure to site reliability engineering (SRE), platform engineering, or infrastructure architecture disciplines.
• Experience contributing to architectural communities of practice or governance forums.
• Prior consultancy experience working across multiple product teams or client environments
