Salary: £62,000 - 87,000 per year
Requirements- We need hands‑on experience supporting production systems, with a strong grounding in SQL and database‑backed applications.
- We need working knowledge of core AWS services, such as EC2, VPC, ECS/EKS, RDS, Cloud Formation and Cloud Watch.
- We need a good understanding of Linux and/or Windows Server administration, including services that support databases and backend applications.
- We need database experience with SQL Server and/or MySQL, including performance troubleshooting, query plans and index basics, and scheduled jobs.
- We need knowledge of backup and restore concepts.
- We need a basic understanding of networking, including routing, firewalls, security groups and VPN concepts.
- We need a methodical approach to troubleshooting, with comfort using logs, metrics, alerts and data to identify root cause.
- We need familiarity with scripting in Power Shell, Bash, Python or SQL scripting to automate operational tasks.
- We need clear communication skills to explain technical issues simply and keep people informed during incidents.
- We need the ability to effectively use and integrate AI‑assisted activities into daily work.
- We need a proactive mindset, with curiosity, pattern recognition and a willingness to learn new tools and techniques.
- We troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and application incidents, working from symptoms through to root cause.
- We carry out day‑to‑day operational tasks such as updates, configuration changes, health checks and environment verification.
- We support and maintain AWS services used across our operational platforms.
- We maintain and improve monitoring and alerting so our services stay healthy, performant and supportable.
- We work within established incident and problem management processes, keeping notes clear and producing concise operational updates.
- We investigate SQL and database issues in live environments, including performance, failed jobs, data integrity and access, and agree safe fixes with engineers.
- We support deployment activities, including database changes where applicable, and help ensure smooth releases to test and production environments.
- We work with Application Support, Development and QA teams to understand how systems operate end to end.
- We provide clear and effective communication during incidents and investigations.
- We contribute to technical discussions and help design and implement agreed solutions.
- We suggest improvements, automate repeatable tasks and improve observability so issues are spotted sooner.
- We identify opportunities to improve reliability, maintainability, testability and efficiency across cloud configuration and SQL/database performance.
- We keep documentation up to date, including diagrams, operational procedures, runbooks and SQL/data support notes.
- We assist with automation using scripting or infrastructure as code, including repeatable operational checks and data maintenance tasks where appropriate.
- We support patching cycles, vulnerability reviews and security investigations.
- We assist with DR testing, backups and operational readiness activities.
- We support customer queries and internal reviews relating to infrastructure or application behaviour.
- We provide clear, customer‑focused communication when assisting with escalations or investigations.
