We are seeking a proactive and practical AI & Automation Specialist (Legal), Senior Analyst to join our Legal Operations capability, supporting the General Counsel Function to scale AI-enabled and product-led ways of working. This role will act as the day-to-day technical lead for Legal’s technology stack at National Grid: covering both AI tools (including Harvey AI and Microsoft Copilot) and core non-AI legal platforms (including document automation, legal holds, and future platforms such as a Legal Front Door and Know How Hub).

This position consists of hybrid working in either Warwick, UK or London, the Strand.

What you’ll do

Key Responsibilities AI and Automation Technology Lead (Legal Stack)
  • Day-to-day technical lead for the Legal AI stack, including Harvey AI and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Support lawyers with advanced prompt design, creation and management of reusable prompt libraries, and safe prompting standards.
  • Help lawyers design, build, test and maintain custom AI workflows, playbooks, and agents, ensuring accuracy, robustness and transferability.
  • Partner with legal teams to identify high-value AI use cases, translating legal work into structured, automatable workflows.
  • Support the application of AI tools on specific projects by assisting teams in selecting the appropriate tool and functionality and resolving issues.
  • Support AI adoption through hands‑on enablement, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement based on user feedback.
  • Track and report the measurement of AI impact (e.g., time savings, adoption, quality improvements).
  • Act as the technical owner for the non-AI legal technology stack, including document automation, workflow automation, and future non-AI platforms (e.g. Legal Front Door).
  • Desirable - support simple document automation authoring.
Overall Strategic Support
  • Maintain platform health: issue triage, configuration, optimization, testing of enhancements and support of upgrades.
  • Work closely with IT and vendors to ensure secure integrations, access controls, and alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Develop clear user guidance and lightweight training materials to support self-service adoption; deliver user training and onboarding.
  • Support the Director of Innovation & Digital in scaling self-service, AI-enabled and product-led ways of working across Legal.
  • Support legal teams globally (in the UK and US) and ensure close alignment to our Legal Digital Strategy.
About you
  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g., business analysis, information systems, technology, law, or similar).
  • 3+ years’ experience in legal environment (law firm, in-house team, or legal technology vendor)
  • Experience in supporting most or all of our digital tools (Harvey AI, Copilot, Contract Express, SharePoint, Power Automate)
  • Strong ability to translate professional workflows into structured steps suitable for repeatable playbooks, automation, or AI augmentation.
  • Experience creating user-friendly guidance and delivering training/onboarding to drive adoption.
  • Demonstrable experience acting as a hands‑on technical support / enablement lead for business users, including troubleshooting, triage, and practical coaching.
  • Desirable - experience measuring and reporting impact (e.g., adoption and time savings) for digital tools.
  • Confidence working with multiple stakeholders (Legal teams, IT, vendors) to resolve issues and support secure, standard-aligned delivery.
