Benefits:

Our client, a leading London technology and connectivity organisation, is hiring an Infrastructure Field Engineer to support the physical infrastructure behind its own network and the networks it manages for customers.

This is a hands‑on field role covering data centres, structured cabling, fibre, copper and wireless infrastructure across London.

You’ll spend most of your week working at network points of presence and customer premises, with some time based in the office. No two days will be quite the same – you could be racking and cabling equipment in a data hall, installing wireless access points on a customer site or fault‑finding a physical network issue.

What you’ll do
  • Install, commission and decommission racks, cabinets, containment and network equipment
  • Run, terminate, test and label copper and fibre structured cabling
  • Install, mount and cable wireless access points from wireless designs and heat maps
  • Carry out physical‑layer fault finding across fibre, copper, optics and patching
  • Use equipment including OTDRs, power meters and cable certifiers to diagnose and validate connectivity
  • Work safely within live data centres, comms rooms and customer racks without disrupting existing services
  • Provide remote-hands support to engineering teams during troubleshooting
  • Support planned migrations, maintenance and out‑of‑hours engineering works
  • Maintain accurate documentation as work is completed
  • Manage tools, spares, stock and site access across multiple locations
  • Participate in an on‑call rota for outages and critical incidents

You’ll work closely with network and engineering teams while regularly operating independently on customer sites, so clear communication and confidence representing the organisation are important.

What we’re looking for
  • 2+ years' experience in a hands‑on field engineering, infrastructure or data centre role
  • Practical experience working within major data centre environments
  • Strong copper termination and testing skills, including patch panels and keystones
  • Good understanding of structured cabling standards and installation best practice
  • Experience installing wireless access points from designs or heat maps
  • Confidence using appropriate test equipment to prove and troubleshoot connectivity
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly around cable management and working within live environments
  • Comfortable working independently and dealing directly with customers, landlords and data centre teams
  • Comfortable working at height, in risers and plant rooms, and handling equipment
  • Full UK driving licence and confidence driving around London
  • Strong organisation and documentation skills

Experience with fibre splicing, OTDR testing and wireless surveying would be particularly useful. Exposure to enterprise wireless platforms, wireless survey tools, DCIM/documentation platforms or structured cabling manufacturer certifications would also be advantageous.

Relevant qualifications such as CSCS, IPAF, PASMA, working‑at‑height or first‑aid training would be beneficial but aren’t essential.

Why join?
  • Employee share plan and bonus scheme
  • 25 days' annual leave, increasing with service, plus bank holidays
  • Private healthcare and discounted gym membership
  • Company pension, life assurance and income protection
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
  • Cycle‑to‑work scheme, travel loan and free eye tests
  • Opportunity to develop further skills across fibre, wireless and IP networking
  • Varied, practical work across a large-scale London technology environment

This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being hands‑on, solving problems and taking ownership of work on site.
