What you’ll be doing

Ready to dive into cyber security and make an impact from day one? You’ll work with colleagues across areas including Application Security, Cloud Security, Identity, Security Operations and IT Continuity. Spend time with experienced security professionals across different disciplines, building your knowledge and helping you understand where you may want to develop your future career.

You’ll have the chance to work across a variety of areas, developing new skills and discovering the work that excites you most, including:

• Application Security: Learn how we build security into applications, including vulnerability management, penetration testing, threat modelling and security reviews.
• Cloud Security: Gain experience of how we protect cloud environments, identify security weaknesses and help teams apply appropriate security controls.
• Identity & Access Management: Learn how we manage identities and access to systems, including access reviews, privileged access and the principles of giving people the right access at the right time.
• Security Operations: See how we identify, investigate and respond to security threats and incidents, working alongside our Security Operations team and security partners.
• IT Continuity: Learn how we prepare for major technology incidents, including business continuity, disaster recovery and exercises that test how effectively we can recover.
• Vulnerability Management: Help identify and track security vulnerabilities, understand the risks they present and work with teams as they are addressed.
• Threat Modelling & Security Testing: Support security specialists in understanding what could go wrong with new systems and services and how those risks can be reduced.
• Risk & Governance: Learn how security risks are identified, recorded and communicated, and how policies and standards help us manage security consistently.
• Projects & Improvement: Contribute to security projects and improvement activities, bringing your own ideas and learning how security changes are delivered in a large organisation.

Our 12-month placement programme is built on three key pillars: contributing, personal development, and the project.

• Contributing: Immerse yourself in your chosen business area, making meaningful contributions to team objectives and projects, and gaining invaluable hands-on experience.
• Personal Development: Beyond your daily tasks, you’ll have dedicated time for learning and growth including mentor catch-ups. With tailored resources and support, you’ll enhance your skills and knowledge, benefiting your work, the project, and your future career.
• The Project: Lead and collaborate with fellow placement students on impactful projects that benefit both the business and the community, offering a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference.
