Portfolio Underwriter – Marine (London, UK)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced insurance professional to join Markel’s Marine & Energy team in London. The role involves underwriting Markel’s fast‑follow marine and energy portfolios, ensuring long‑term profitability and growth while maintaining strong relationships with brokers, colleagues and stakeholders.

• Underwrite Markel’s fast‑follow marine and energy portfolios, ensuring long‑term profitability and growth.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders internally and with broker counterparts externally.
• Conduct thorough and regular whole‑account assessments and make informed underwriting decisions steering the portfolio towards constant profitability.
• Collaborate with other underwriters and team members to achieve business objectives efficiently.
• Monitor aggregates, including catastrophe management, within corporate thresholds and maximum capacities.
• Maintain accurate capture of aggregation, risk and technically rated premium data on the company systems.
• Perform portfolio analysis using various software and data analysis systems, reporting on portfolio performance as required.
• Prioritise customer experience with best‑in‑class response times to all stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Work within the efficient and effective workflow procedures within the portfolio.

• Experience in the insurance industry, preferably within the marine and energy market.
• Strong analytical and decision‑making skills.
• Demonstrate being an active member of a team and contribute in an open environment with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and Power
  
  BI portfolio analysis tools.
• Experience with Cat / Aggregation Management software would be an advantage.
• An ACII qualification, or being in the process of obtaining it, would be beneficial.
