Chief Underwriting Officer - Multi Line

Edenbrook are working with a high-growth, international (re) insurance group seeking a Chief Underwriting Officer to lead underwriting strategy across a diversified, multi-jurisdictional platform.

This is a rare opportunity to shape underwriting at Group level, with accountability for profitability, portfolio construction and governance across facultative, treaty, and direct insurance operations in Europe, the US, and offshore markets.

As CUO, you will:

• Own Group-wide underwriting performance, delivering sustainable gross and net profitability
• Define and execute underwriting strategy across multiple legal entities and platforms
• Lead expansion into new products, territories, and structures where insight, talent, and technology create advantage
• Oversee underwriting governance, delegated authorities, and risk appetite adherence across jurisdictions
• Partner closely with risk, actuarial, capital, and executive leadership on portfolio construction and capital deployment
• Act as executive sponsor for the Group’s retrocession strategy, aligning underwriting, volatility management, and RoE
• Champion technology and AI-enabled underwriting, driving better decision-making at scale

The successful candidate will be:

• A proven underwriting leader from a specialty insurer or reinsurer
• Experienced operating at Group or global level, with multi-entity and multi-regulatory exposure
• Commercially sharp, disciplined, and deeply credible with brokers, cedants, and market partners
• Comfortable balancing growth with control, governance, and capital stewardship
