The Underwriting Assistant will support the Natural Resources team in delivering a responsive, high-quality service to brokers and clients for Onshore Construction risks. The role provides essential technical and administrative support across the underwriting lifecycle, helping the team manage a broad Onshore Construction portfolio written through Lloyd's. Sitting within the wider Natural Resources team, this is an opportunity to build a strong grounding in London Market underwriting while working closely with experienced underwriters, claims colleagues and distribution partners.
The team writes a broad portfolio of Oil & Gas, Power, Mining, Infrastructure (including Road, Rail, Tunnels, Bridges and Utilities), Data Centres and Commercial Buildings.
About the job While there is rarely a typical day, here is a snapshot of the key parts of the role:
- Support the underwriting team with the receipt, triage and accurate recording of new business submissions, endorsements and broker enquiries.
- Prepare underwriting files and risk information for review, ensuring documentation is complete, accurate and stored in line with agreed processes.
- Assist with policy issuance, endorsements, premium and exposure data, routine credit-control and administration queries.
- Maintain clear, timely communication with brokers and internal stakeholders, escalating technical questions or service issues appropriately.
- Support portfolio monitoring, management information and data-quality activity, helping the team make well-informed and timely decisions.
- Work with Underwriting Operations, Claims and other central functions to resolve queries and support a smooth client and broker experience.
- Liaise with the Exposure Management team to model and monitor Natural Catastrophe exposures.
- Develop technical knowledge of Onshore Construction methods, techniques and technologies.
- Help prepare materials for broker meetings, portfolio reviews and internal reporting, and contribute to follow-up actions.
- Form a detailed understanding of Onshore Construction insurance products and the team’s underwriting appetite.
- Conduct your role in accordance with the company's Business Ethics policy and relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements.
- Handle information sensitively and maintain strong attention to detail, controls and auditability.
- Act as a positive ambassador for the Natural Resources team and MS Amlin in every interaction.
- Look for practical ways to improve processes, data quality and service delivery.
- Experience in a support, operations or related insurance role is desirable, though strong potential and a genuine interest in underwriting will also be considered.
- An interest in construction and engineering projects and the London Market, with a willingness to learn the products, distribution model and technical detail of the portfolio.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and follow tasks through to completion.
- High level of accuracy and confidence working with data, documents and underwriting systems.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with a service-focused and collaborative approach.
- Good numerical and analytical aptitude, and confidence using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
As well as a competitive base salary and performance-related discretionary bonus, we offer a broad range of employee benefits.
MS Amlin operates a hybrid working model that supports flexibility while valuing the collaboration of working together as a team.
We welcome all talent and want everyone to have the opportunity to influence how our business works.
