We are seeking an experienced and proactive Assistant Practice Manager to lead onsite from start time of 8am-9:30am to oversee the day-to-day operational delivery of our primary care services. This role is pivotal in ensuring the practice runs efficiently, safely, and in line with NHS contractual, regulatory, and performance requirements.
The Operations Manager will work closely with GP Partners, clinical leads, and the wider management team to support high-quality patient care through effective workforce management, service planning, governance, and continuous improvement.
Main duties of the job- Lead the day-to-day operational management of primary care services, ensuring smooth and efficient running of clinics and support functions
- Manage and support non-clinical staff, including rota planning, performance management, recruitment, and training
- Oversee operational compliance, including CQC standards, health & safety, HR policies, and NHS contractual obligations
- Monitor and improve service performance, capacity, and patient access
- Support delivery of PCN and enhanced services, working across practices where required
- Manage operational aspects of change projects, service development, and transformation initiatives
- Act as a key point of contact between clinical teams and external stakeholders
- Ensure systems and processes are robust, efficient, and continuously improved

Job responsibilitiesKey Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the practice/PCN, ensuring services run smoothly and efficiently
- Ensure appropriate systems, processes, and controls are in place to support service delivery
- Manage clinic capacity, patient flow, and access to services
- Oversee estates, facilities, and health & safety arrangements
People Management
- Line manage non-clinical staff, including administrative, reception, and operational teams
- Lead on recruitment, induction, training, rota management, and performance management
- Promote staff engagement, wellbeing, and a positive working culture
- Support workforce planning to meet service demand
Governance, Compliance & Risk
- Ensure compliance with CQC standards, NHS contractual requirements, and organisational policies
- Lead on operational aspects of clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement
- Manage risk registers, incidents, and complaints in line with policy
- Ensure data protection, confidentiality, and information governance compliance
Service Delivery & Performance
- Monitor and improve operational performance against agreed targets and KPIs
- Support delivery of enhanced services, PCN DES requirements, and local initiatives
- Identify opportunities for service improvement, efficiency, and innovation
- Support business continuity planning and resilience
Finance & Resources
- Support budget management, cost control, and value-for-money initiatives
- Oversee operational aspects of procurement and resource management
