Lead Strategic Environmental ServicesAn excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Waste & Contracts Manager to join a London Borough Council on an initial 3-month contract.
This is a key leadership role responsible for managing environmental service contracts, driving service improvements, overseeing waste and recycling initiatives, and ensuring high-quality service delivery across the borough.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the procurement, commissioning, and management of environmental service contracts.
- Ensure contractors deliver high-quality, value-for-money services that meet performance standards.
- Drive strategic initiatives to improve waste management, recycling rates, and environmental outcomes.
- Manage budgets, performance data, and operational service delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with elected members, senior stakeholders, contractors, and partner organisations.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management, committees, and other forums.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
- Manage customer enquiries, complaints, and service improvement programmes.
You will have:
- Significant experience managing waste, environmental, or public realm services.
- Strong contract management, commissioning, and procurement experience.
- Experience managing large budgets and delivering service improvements.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Knowledge of environmental and waste management legislation.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and project management abilities.
- Experience leading teams and driving organisational change.
