STRATEGIC BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTIONRisk Management is led by Senior Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer and is accountable on matters relating to the independent oversight of the management of risks inherent to CIBC’s activities. These risks include but are not limited to ensuring that effective processes are in place for the identification, management, measurement, monitoring and control of operational, reputation and legal, strategic, regulatory, market, credit, investment and liquidity risk, collectively “CIBC Risk”, incurred by CIBC’s retail and wholesale businesses, infrastructure and corporate governance groups.
JOBPURPOSE
As a Director, Corporate Function Compliance, you’ll be joining CIBC’s Compliance and Global Regulatory Affairs team within Risk Management, and reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Function Compliance. You’ll provide strategic leadership and direction to a team of Compliance professionals, ensuring that CIBC’s 1st and 2nd Line groups under your purview are effectively managing regulatory compliance risk in alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite and regulator expectations.
You’ll oversee the execution of Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) activities, coordinate regulatory landscape analysis, and ensure alignment with industry standards and the Bank’s Regulatory Compliance Management Policy. You will be responsible for leading the oversight activities of a group of CFC officers specializing in quantitative risk regulatory areas (such as Enterprise Risk, Credit Risk and ECL, Stress Testing, Regulatory Reporting) and corporate function areas (such as Legal, Related Party Transactions, Corporate Governance, Corporate Security, Whistle blower).
Your scope of oversight will mainly include global regulations across CIBC’s global footprint (Europe, Asia Pacific and other regions). Your role will involve developing relationships across business units, providing compliance advisory services, and optimizing processes to drive operational excellence.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Strategic Leadership and Oversight
- Lead and manage a team of Compliance Officers, providing direction, coaching, and monitoring of activities to ensure alignment with CIBC’s Regulatory Compliance Management framework. - Regulatory Landscape Analysis
- Stay current on changes in relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Analyze the impact of regulatory changes and adjust compliance strategies accordingly. - Risk Assessment and Management
- Review complex legal and regulatory documentation, translate requirements into plain language, and perform risk assessments in accordance with established methodologies. - Process Optimization
- Provide insights and best practices for optimizing regulatory compliance processes, focusing on operational excellence and mitigation strategies. - Relationship Building
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Oversight Functions, Line of Business leaders, and other teams within Compliance and Global Regulatory Affairs to ensure effective oversight and mitigation of regulatory compliance risk. - Team Development
