Purpose of the Role

To ensure all environmental conditions are maintained at all times with regard to critical building systems and to supervise the day‑to‑day operation of a shift carrying out Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) and reactive works within the contracted site. Working hours are 6 am–6 pm, continental shift pattern. Engineers must demonstrate relevant knowledge of air‑conditioning, UPS, generators, LV systems, fault‑finding using graphical information and current alarm data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure routine PPM is carried out on all M&E plant in accordance with site task schedules and asset lists.
  • Ensure reactive tasks are completed throughout the building and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Ensure subcontractors meet contractual requirements; administer sub‑contractor approvals and safe operation during repair or service on site.
  • Operate a Permit to Work system in accordance with BGIS quality, health & safety procedures and client requirements.
  • Remediate plant faults and defects swiftly to keep plant in serviceable order.
  • Maintain suitable spares and provide parts lists with estimated timescales for remedial works.
  • Complete all relevant paperwork for reactive and breakdown works and update the CAFM system or submit to the contract administrator.
  • Prepare, review and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks to ensure safe working practices.
  • Develop good working relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors and client representatives.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, including wearing uniform and PPE at all times.
  • Maintain a professional image of BGIS when presenting to clients.
  • Lock and keep all BGIS‑owned plant rooms clean and tidy.
  • Supervise and monitor subcontractor work during maintenance.
  • Action and complete assigned tasks appropriately.
  • Ensure tasks are completed with appropriate health & safety awareness/implementation.
  • Maintain awareness and compliance with contractual KPIs/SLA’s.
  • Keep computer‑based maintenance systems (e.g. Maximo) updated; close PPM and reactive tickets with accurate data.
  • Carry out any other tasks directed by site management.
  • Produce near‑miss reports, dynamic risk assessments and detailed records of site activities; challenge and escale any non‑compliance.
  • Check operation of the LOTO system in accordance with BGIS quality, health & safety procedures and client requirements.
  • Observe building environmental conditions using the BMS system and maintain acceptable internal conditions.
  • Complete shift reports to the correct standard.

Accountabilities

  • Reporting to the Contract Manager.
  • Working collaboratively as part of the team.
  • Post carries no direct budgetary responsibility.
  • Indirect reporting lines to the Contract Manager.
  • May have direct reporting staff, e.g. shift technicians or day staff.
