Are you passionate about the conservation and sustainable future of church buildings? We are seeking a Casework & Building Strategy Adviser to provide specialist professional advice and casework support for church buildings across the Diocese of London. This role offers the opportunity to work with parishes, archdeacons, statutory bodies and heritage organisations to support the conservation, adaptation and development of church buildings.

You will help develop well-planned proposals that balance heritage, environmental, community and financial considerations while supporting the Diocese's mission and Net Zero Carbon ambitions.

Job Summary

The Casework & Building Strategy Adviser provides specialist advice on the conservation, repair, alteration and sustainable management of church buildings across the Diocese of London. Working within the Parish Property and Fundraising Directorate, the role supports parishes through complex building projects, faculty processes and funding applications, helping to secure the long-term sustainable future of church buildings.,

  • Provide specialist conservation, planning and building advice to parishes on church building projects.
  • Support PCCs in developing proposals from initial concept through to Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) consideration.
  • Advise on Faculty applications, heritage matters, conservation requirements and project planning.
  • Build effective relationships with Historic England, statutory consultees and other heritage stakeholders.
  • Support churches in developing projects and funding applications by providing technical and conservation expertise.
  • Undertake site visits and provide practical advice to parishes across the Diocese.
  • Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in building conservation, planning, heritage consultancy or conservation project management.
  • Experience working with historic buildings and conservation projects.
  • Experience providing written advice on building proposals.
  • Strong understanding of historic buildings legislation, planning processes and conservation principles.
  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Empathetic to the mission and values of the Church of England.
  • Willingness to travel across the Diocese of London.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • This role does not require a DBS check.
