If we imagine 100 years from now, the tens of billions of pictures currently held in Flickrcouldbe in something similar to the public domain. Today, we have an opportunity to begin the work to preserve those pictures, their stories, and their interconnections for the very long term. Imagine how a wildly successful Flickr Foundation could help ensure, by example, that the Commons of the future is the one we need and want.

The Flickr Foundation is a year-old organisation with an explicit goal to be active for 100 years. The Archivist will initiate the design and structure to keep and care for the organisation’s materials, practices and lore, with the intention to make it legible and accessible for the next century  Archivist will also co-design Foundation programs and advise partners and fellows on making and describing work for future readers and builders.
