Job Summary
The role is for a highly motivated and dynamic band 6 nurse within the Division of Surgery & Cancer at Whipps Cross, Poplar ward. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership, management and care expertise to provide outstanding care for patients in East London and beyond.
Main duties of the jobAppoint a compassionate and caring nurse who will work closely with the ward manager to deliver high quality care and support the department’s objectives.
Job responsibilitiesThe position requires involvement in daily clinical duties, shift leadership, mentorship, staff development, teaching, and quality assurance. The successful nurse will contribute to patient safety and service improvement initiatives.
Person Specification Qualifications- Registered Nurse
- BSc or currently working towards
- Minimum 1 year’s experience as a Band 5 nurse in a surgical setting
- Evidence of continual professional development
- Experience leading shifts
- Staff mentorship, development, teaching and support
- Previous experience at band 6 level
- Mentorship course or equivalent
- Expanded clinical skills, e.g., IV drug administration, cannulation, phlebotomy
- Standard setting and quality assurance
- Intermediate Life Support provider or equivalent
- Current nursing practice developments and NHS developments
- BSc or currently working towards
- Care of the acutely ill adult or equivalent
- Specialist course or equivalent skill level
- Educated at degree level or equivalent
- Cost containment and budgetary management
- Effective communication and courteous attitude with patients, relatives and MDT, promoting teamwork and building good working relationships
- Strong management, leadership and organisational skills
- Clinical expertise, ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Clear written communication with attention to detail
- Knowledge of using CRS system
- Experience in patient‑controlled analgesia & epidural infusions
- Experience with artificial feeding; TPN & PEG feeding
- Experience in negative pressure wound dressings & complex wound healing
- Polite, professional, caring manner and assertive when necessary
- Flexible and positive approach to work

- Maturity and self‑awareness
- Evidence‑based practice in acute ward area
