Band 5 - Staff Nurse​/ODP - Tower and Nuffield Theatres

We are looking for a Band 5 Staff Nurse/ODP to work in Tower and Nuffield theatres, recovery, scrubs, admissions/ambulatory/discharge lounges. The post holder is responsible for assessment of the perioperative care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation without direct supervision. At times they will have to supervise junior members of staff and students. The post holder will be a key member in relation to development of practice in theatres.

They will be working independently/autonomously and at times without direct supervision, accountable for their own professional actions, ensuring the safety and well‑being of service users and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person‑centred care principles.

• Admit surgical patients
• Scrub/Circulate in operating theatres
• Recover post‑operative patients
• Participate in an internal rotation programme to enable multi‑skilled working
• Work with multi‑disciplinary teams in ambulatory care post‑operative lounge
• Co‑ordinate theatre lists and departmental duties
• Support trust initiatives, quality improvement and audit
• Recognise and avoid situations detrimental to the health and wellbeing of individuals
• Carry out comprehensive assessment of a person’s nursing requirements
• Ensure all patients have a safe and appropriate discharge plan
• Carry out nursing procedures and treatments, maintaining the highest possible standards
• Take a clear and concise history from patients, assessing health and wellbeing, and complete accurate documentation ensuring all entries are legible and information systems are maintained
• Undertake prescribed physical observations (blood pressure, temperature, respiration, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height) and report any exceptions
• Administer prescribed medication correctly, including transfusion of blood and blood products
