Position: Professional Development Nurse (Paediatrics)
Location: City of Westminster

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Practice Development Nurse to join the Rainbow Paediatric Unit at Newham University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. The senior role is central to supporting the development of a skilled, confident and compassionate paediatric nursing workforce.

Role Overview

This senior role requires a highly committed Registered Children's Nurse who can provide strong professional leadership and drive excellence in clinical education. The post holder will take responsibility for the education and development of pre‑ and post‑registration learners, newly qualified nurses and existing staff within the ward. Responsibilities include coordinating and delivering structured teaching, supporting learning in practice, ensuring that all staff have access to high‑quality training based on current evidence‑based standards, leading paediatric resuscitation training and SIMS, overseeing the safe introduction and implementation of new medical equipment, and providing ongoing professional development such as reflective practice, clinical skills updates and competency assessment.

The role also involves contributing to recruitment and retention of nursing staff, participating in interviews and supporting the induction and transition of new colleagues.

Core Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the Preceptorship Programme for newly qualified nurses and for those new to paediatric nursing.
  • Work clinically alongside newly qualified nurses and those new to paediatric nursing to provide support in the clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate exceptional clinical skills in all areas of paediatric nursing and develop and teach others.
  • Partner with senior management to develop a learning‑friendly environment that promotes excellent standards of care for all staff.
  • Initiate, facilitate and support innovative change within paediatrics in line with current clinical and academic evidence, national standards and relevant reports.
  • Evaluate training and education programmes in collaboration with NNU staff.
Qualifications

Registered Children's Nurse with experience in paediatric nursing and demonstrated leadership in clinical education.
