Lead Nurse for Trauma & Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery

This 12‑month senior leadership role is a unique opportunity to drive service improvement, transformation and operational management within a world‑leading Major Trauma Centre. The Lead Nurse will shape the future of trauma care by providing strategic, professional and operational nursing leadership across the Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery services at the Royal London Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic, professional and operational nursing leadership across the Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery services.
  • Lead the delivery of high‑quality, safe and effective patient care through visible clinical leadership, workforce development, service improvement and robust governance processes.
  • Provide direct line management and professional leadership to the Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) teams and Trauma Coordinators, ensuring outstanding patient care, effective pathway management and positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of divisional and organisational objectives, supporting innovation, operational performance, patient safety and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a clinical presence within the Trauma Coordination Service for up to one to two days per week, supporting coordination of complex trauma pathways and grounding service developments in frontline practice.
  • Lead, influence, negotiate and build effective multidisciplinary relationships across the hospital and wider community.
Key Qualifications
  • Significant post‑registration experience within Trauma, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Major Trauma or related acute services.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading teams, including workforce management and staff development.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and build effective multidisciplinary relationships.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage complexity and make decisions under pressure.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience at Band 8 level, or high‑performing Band 7 seeking advanced leadership challenge.
