Location: City of Westminster

As a senior clinical leader, you will provide visible leadership on the ward, ensuring high standards of patient care, effective workforce planning and operational excellence. You will support service development, quality improvement initiatives and staff development while working alongside internationally recognised consultants and multidisciplinary teams.

Clinical Leadership
  • Provide visible clinical leadership and professional support to nursing teams throughout each shift.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based nursing care across the department.
  • Act as a role model for professional practice, demonstrating excellent clinical standards and compassionate patient care.
  • Support the management of patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) and complex oncology and haematology treatments.
  • Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and respond effectively to deteriorating patients.
Operational Management
  • Coordinate and manage patient flow, admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Ensure safe staffing levels through effective workforce planning and skill mix management.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operational running of the ward or unit.
  • Support effective bed management and utilisation of resources.
  • Participate in the management of clinical emergencies and changing service demands.
People Management
  • Lead, motivate and support nursing staff to deliver outstanding patient care.
  • Contribute to recruitment, induction and retention activities.
  • Conduct appraisals, performance reviews and objective setting in line with organisational requirements.
  • Identify learning and development opportunities for team members.
  • Support students, newly qualified nurses and junior staff through mentorship and coaching.
Quality, Governance and Patient Safety
  • Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Participate in audits, service evaluations and quality improvement projects.
  • Monitor compliance with professional, regulatory and organisational standards.
  • Lead and support incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are embedded into practice.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with data protection requirements.
Service Development
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental objectives and service improvements.
  • Support the introduction of new initiatives, technologies and evidence-based practices.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient experience and service performance.
  • Champion innovation and excellence in cancer care delivery.
Qualifications

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and evidence of continuing professional development.

SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) competency/certification.

Experience
  • Significant post-registration experience within a oncology setting.
  • Experience administering chemotherapy and managing patients receiving SACT.
  • Previous experience leading teams within an acute healthcare environment.
  • Experience supporting staff development and performance management.
  • Participation in clinical audits, governance activities or quality improvement initiatives.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong clinical knowledge of haematology and oncology nursing.
  • Competence in venepuncture, cannulation and intravenous drug administration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and influence multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation and decision-making abilities.
  • Understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and risk management principles.
  • Ability to manage complex clinical situations and changing priorities effectively.
Additional Qualifications
  • Leadership or management qualification.
  • Experience with in an independent healthcare setting.
  • Experience of service development and project implementation.
  • Knowledge of stem cell transplantation and advanced oncology treatments.
