Relief Care Team Leader

The Relief Care Team Leader provides hands-on leadership and supervision across residential and nursing care services within Jewish Care, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality, person‑centred care to older people, including those living with dementia. Working on a bank/relief basis, the postholder will lead shifts as required, coordinating care staff, allocating duties, and ensuring that residents receive responsive support that promotes dignity, independence, and wellbeing.

The role includes supporting personal care delivery, administering medication (where trained), responding to incidents or emergencies, maintaining accurate care records, and ensuring compliance with care plans, safeguarding, and organisational policies. The Team Leader will also support staff supervision, induction, mentoring, and day‑to‑day problem solving to ensure smooth and consistent service delivery across shifts.

Lead shifts across residential and nursing services, supporting and guiding care staff to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care to older people. Coordinate daily care activity, support medication administration (where trained), maintain records, and ensure a safe, calm, and supportive environment for residents. Provide leadership on shift, support colleagues, and help maintain excellent standards of care, safeguarding, and teamwork.

The Care Team Leader role is worked on a rota basis and includes evening and weekend shifts. Shift length: 12‑hour shifts (88). Includes some weekend working.

• Lead and coordinate care staff during shifts to ensure excellent standards of care are consistently delivered.
• Support residents with personal care and daily living activities in line with individual care plans and preferences.
• Promote residents’ physical, emotional, social, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing.
• Contribute to the development and review of care plans to ensure care remains person‑centred and responsive.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms, incidents, emergencies, and resident requests.
• Support, mentor, and motivate care staff to maintain a positive and professional team culture.
• Assist with staff induction, supervision, learning, and development, including agency staff where required.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure effective communication with residents, relatives, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
• Promote health, safety, safeguarding, and compliance with organisational policies and care regulations.
• Support an excellent customer experience for all residents, families, and visitors.

• QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
• Experience working within a care environment, including supervising staff within a care setting.
• Experience supporting older people, including individuals living with dementia and physical disabilities.
• Understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and person‑centred care practices.
• Knowledge of medication administration and CQC regulations/KLOEs.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage challenging situations positively and work effectively under pressure.
• Good IT skills, including the use of electronic care planning systems.
• A flexible and compassionate approach to supporting residents’ needs.
