Responsible for:
Providing a high standard of nursing care for patients attending the HIV service. Supporting the CNS team in running the HIV nursing service and co‑ordinating HIV clinics on a day‑to‑day basis. Undertaking health screening for people living with HIV. Running clinics for patients receiving injectable antiretroviral therapy. Managing and actioning HIV reactive results from the Emergency Department opt‑out testing programme.

Job Summary

To work as part of the HIV team, providing and supporting a high‑quality nursing service, including nurse‑led injectables clinics. Co‑ordinating HIV clinics on a day‑to‑day basis. The HIV nurses work as part of the multi‑professional team, ensuring that patients with HIV receive a high standard of care and support.

Main Duties
1) EXPERT CLINICAL PRACTICE
  • 1.1 To undertake routine nursing assessment for HIV patients, ensuring that nursing care for people living with HIV is assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated using research evidence as appropriate. Administration, monitoring and support for patients receiving injectable antiretrovirals.
  • 1.2 To provide support and supervision to more junior staff, including health care support workers.
  • 1.3 To co‑ordinate the HIV clinic on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • 1.4 In conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, monitor and maintain excellent standards of HIV health care for patients with multiple needs who require complex packages of care.
  • 1.5 To ensure that all nursing procedures are carried out in accordance with St George's Healthcare NHS Trust policies taking appropriate action in emergency situations.
  • 1.6 Ensuring that accurate and timely nursing records are maintained, monitoring standards and taking appropriate corrective action as necessary.
  • 1.7 Maintaining personal contact with patients, relatives and carers, being sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity and privacy and always ensuring a friendly environment.
  • 1.8 Storing, checking and administering drugs in accordance with Trust policy.
  • 1.9 Accurately interpret patient information and tests results, consulting and referring on as appropriate.
  • 1.10 To prioritise own work and that of others to ensure the department is managed effectively.
  • 1.11 Act as role model, demonstrating specialist knowledge and skills in HIV health care delivery.
