Senior Ecologist (London)
Arup is seeking a Senior Ecologist based at our head office in London who will work as part of a multidisciplinary Climate and Sustainability Services consulting team. The role offers diverse projects and opportunities to develop a broad range of ecological and project management skills.
Responsibilities- Managing small/medium projects and overseeing ecological subcontractors on larger projects.
- Preparing clear and concise reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), Species Survey Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Appraisals (HRA) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessments.
- Advising on biodiversity design, restoration/enhancement, and integration of green infrastructure and nature-based solutions to secure biodiversity gain and strengthen climate resilience.
- Proactively managing ecological project delivery, client meetings, resourcing, project controls and budgets.
- Conducting field survey work such as Phase 1 Habitat/UKHab surveys, protected species surveys (e.g. great crested newt, bats, badger) and condition scoring for BNG assessments.
- Data analysis of survey results, including delivery of GIS outputs.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Zoology, Geography, Biology or equivalent; postgraduate qualification (MSc) is advantageous.
- Associate membership of CIEEM or equivalent professional body, with ambition to work towards Chartership.
- Experience designing and conducting ecological surveys for EcIA and HRA.
- Knowledge of BNG and related metrics, natural capital studies, biodiversity strategies, and emerging nature-related policies.
- Experience managing sub-consultants and reviewing performance.
Position may require travel within London and across the UK; a valid driving licence is required.
