Support residents to live independently in safe, welcoming homes - making every day easier, safer and more connected.

About the role

As a Sheltered Housing Officer, you'll be a trusted presence in our housing schemes, supporting residents to live independently, feel safe, and stay connected to their community. It's a role where care, confidence and communication really matter, and where your everyday actions can make a lasting difference.

Working Style

You will be based in the borough for 5 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.

What you'll be doing

You'll be the friendly, familiar face that residents know and trust. Based in one of our sheltered housing schemes, you'll help older or more vulnerable residents feel safe, supported and part of the community, while ensuring the building is well‑maintained and secure. You will carry out regular checks of the communal areas, help residents report any issues, assist with settlement, access support, navigate services, signpost help, solve everyday challenges, and support tenancy matters.

You will work closely with carers, contractors and council teams, and play a vital role in keeping the scheme clean, secure, and welcoming.

You'll often work alone, so you must be confident in using your judgement and knowing when to escalations. You'll manage access to the building, keep accurate records, and monitor performance against housing management standards.

Qualifications

Experience working in a customer‑focused environment is essential, along with strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people. You need to be organised, reliable, comfortable juggling different tasks, and confident using computer systems and maintaining accurate digital records. You should have a warm, approachable personality and the sensitivity and resilience to support residents from a range of backgrounds.

Training

& Development

You will be supported with training and development opportunities to grow your skills and build confidence in your role. There is space to share your ideas and improve how we work.

Benefits & Salary

We are committed to fair, transparent, and consistent pay practices. New hires will start at the minimum of the advertised salary range, and employees receive annual salary increases until they reach the top of the pay scale. In addition, employees will receive any agreed cost of living pay rises.

Equal Opportunities

We are a Disability Confident Employer and are committed to ensuring our recruitment and selection process is inclusive and accessible. We listen to our residents, act with integrity and work together to build a greener, safer, and fairer borough.
