Job overview

You will join the All‑Age multi‑disciplinary Single Point of Access (SPA) team in our specialist CAMHS services as a CAMHS Practitioner. The role requires a relevant qualification as an RMN/RCN/RNLD, MH Social Worker, OT, or similar, with experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. You will work autonomously, delivering assessment, treatment planning, education, and advice to young people, their families, and other professionals, within a 24‑hour service and flexible shift patterns.

duties of the job
  • Provide high‑quality service to young people and their families/carers referred to CNWL CAMHS SPA.
  • Contribute to referral and triage pathways, promote the reputation of CAMHS and provide triage and brief crisis management in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • Exercise systematic governance of practice within the CNWL SPA.
  • Demonstrate compassion and patient‑focused care.
  • Work in partnership with other agencies, including professionals in health and social care.
  • Oversee the work of less experienced and unqualified staff where appropriate.
  • Deliver support to young adults and those in transitional periods.
Detailed responsibilities
  • Self‑confident, autonomous practitioner responsibilities for own care and supervision of team members.
  • Provide evidence‑based clinical care adhering to agreed policies and procedures.
  • Work with patients and families through planning, risk assessment, and needs evaluation.
  • Answer and triage SPA calls in a patient‑friendly manner, prioritising appropriately.
  • Signpost callers to non‑statutory or third‑sector services as required.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessment and management, ensuring decisions are in the patient’s best interest.
  • Maintain effective liaison and communication pathways with other services.
  • Uphold confidentiality at all times and work within the Clinical Governance Framework.
Person specification Qualifications
  • UK‑registered professional qualification in a psychological or therapeutic field, mental health nursing, mental health social work, or an equivalent.
  • Additional qualifications or training in child and adolescent mental health.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Experience working in child and adolescent mental health.
  • Significant experience assessing complex mental health presentations.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary or multi‑agency team.
  • Excellent knowledge of mental health guidelines and best practice.
  • Experience of the Children Act, safeguarding legislation and protocols.
  • Good understanding of local child and adolescent mental health services.
Technical Job Related Skills
  • Excellent communication, assessment, planning and recording skills.
  • Ability to deliver interventions addressing assessed needs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other disciplines.
  • Ability to evaluate interventions and practice for service improvement.

  • Contract subject to a 13‑week probationary period under the Agenda for Change employment contracts.
