Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (Children

The Bexley SASS team provides advocacy and support to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse living in Bexley. The service provides a package of support covering crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, assessment of needs and individual support planning. A key aspect of the role will be to advocate on behalf of service users pursuing remedies through the criminal and civil justice systems.,

You'll be an experienced advocate with experience of working with children aged 5 to 13 years who have experienced domestic violence and abuse. You'll work as part of broader multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with external agencies in your work. In this critical role you'll provide psycho educational activities for children and young people. This includes one to one support sessions within a school setting who are identified by professionals as needing additional emotional support.

Self Esteem and Confidence, Self-care, Healthy relationships;
Keeping Safe and Expressing feelings, are examples of some of the sessions you will have with children and young people. In addition, you will coordinate and deliver the DAY Program, a healthy relationship program to Children and Young people in schools, youth groups and community groups, these will be delivered after working hours when required., The postholder will be based at various locations within Bexley.

The role is centred around face-to-face support, including assisting survivors to appointments, and holding one to one meetings in person. Given the nature of this role, we are unable to offer hybrid working for this position.

You will be able to evidence a thorough understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on women and their children, as well as experience of providing emotional and practical support and strong casework management skills.

You have the necessary skills to provide effective crisis intervention, carry out children's risk assessments where appropriate, safety planning, assessment of needs and individual support planning. You should have demonstrable experience of working in an IDVA or similar position with this or a similar client group.
