Title: Head of Software Engineering

Location: City of London, 2-3 days per week

Oliver Bernard are working with a high-growth, consumer-facing brand that reaches millions of users globally across mobile, web and physical experiences. They’re on an ambitious digital transformation journey and are looking for a Head of Software Engineering to help take their consumer platforms to the next level.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering leadership role with a strong emphasis on being actively involved in the early stages while the team is being shaped.

• Shaping how world‑class digital experiences are built, scaled and shipped
• Leading engineering across mobile apps, consumer platforms, APIs and integrations
• Owning and setting the engineering strategy for a large‑scale B2C ecosystem
• Partnering closely with Product and Design to deliver high‑performing, user‑centric experiences
• Playing a key role in a business moving from scale‑up to global maturity
• Building, growing and mentoring an engineering leadership team
• Operating in a genuinely hands‑on capacity in the early phase
• Writing code, contributing to architecture and making key technical decisions
• Conducting code reviews and setting engineering standards
• Acting as a Principal Engineer while the team is built out
• Leading from the front before transitioning into a more strategic leadership position

• A senior engineering leader with strong B2C and consumer product experience
• Deep exposure to mobile‑first or mobile‑heavy environments
• Experience scaling teams in high‑growth or scale‑up businesses
• Technically credible — comfortable getting into the codebase when needed
• Experience operating in lean environments or building teams from an early stage
• Strong knowledge of modern cloud‑native engineering, CI/CD, observability and platform reliability
• Confident working across product, design and commercial stakeholders
