Overview
We’re building the future of payments and our Payments Digital Services team is shaping the next generation of experiences across payments and beyond. As a Backend Software Engineer, you’ll help bring this vision to life by working on a connected, modern platform that integrates with best‑in‑class tools and services, enabling customers to make smarter financial decisions and access innovative products.
End Date: Monday 01 June 2026
Salary: £57,300 – £85,000
Location: London
Hours: Full‑time
Working Pattern: Hybrid – at least two days per week or 40% of time in an office site.
- Deliver clean, architecturally sound, maintainable server‑side code (ideally full‑stack experience).
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to build and develop a world‑class product.
- Motivate the team past roadblocks to ensure features ship as effectively as possible.
- Guide design discussions and help the team balance flexibility, expediency, scalability, and performance.
- Partner with product and engineering leaders to constantly refine and iterate development processes.
- Champion new technologies and promote best development practices.
- Keep an eye on the future while proactively, yet pragmatically, tackling technical debt.
- In‑depth knowledge of Go (Golang).
- Experience building microservices, ideally deployed in containers on Kubernetes.
- Solid grounding in agile development practices.
- Experience with both RDBMS and No
SQL data stores. - Ability to diagnose problems across the stack (client, HTTP/network, server, database, OS) with sound rationale for decisions.
- Proven experience building large, concurrent, distributed applications.
- Experience developing and running large‑scale production environments in partnership with Dev Ops or SRE teams.
- A genuine interest in working in a fast‑paced startup, ideally in fintech or payments.
- A voracious appetite for learning and improvement.
- Preferred:
Knowledge of PHP, real‑time low‑latency high‑frequency transaction‑based systems, event‑driven architectures. - We recognise that skills are developed in many ways; if you have relevant, transferable experience we encourage you to apply.
