Job Description & How to Apply Below

Android Software Engineer | Kotlin, Coroutines, AI integrations | Fully remote, UK
£80,000 to £100,000
. Permanent.
London. Fully remote across the UK.

An Android role where AI behaviour sits in the middle of the product. You will own how streaming, partial results, retries and unpredictable model behaviour feel on a real device.

Our client is an early-stage AI product company building applications that get on with everyday tasks before you ask. A prototype exists, launch is ahead, and the business is funded without depending on an upcoming round.

You’ll work in a small, distributed team alongside backend and ML engineers. The Android application is yours to build and maintain, with AI capability reached through backend APIs.

The awkward work is part of the job. AI‑heavy flows put pressure on responsiveness, memory and reliability, and model behaviour does not always fail neatly. You’ll be expected to profile problems, handle partial failure and make the application stable enough for real users.

The job

Android. Build and maintain a production Android application in Kotlin. You’ll work with Coroutines and Flow, REST or gRPC APIs, and structured data moving between the client and backend services.
AI experience. Integrate features using LLM, vision or speech APIs. You’ll design mobile behaviour for streaming responses, retries and partial results, because a model call is rarely a simple request and response.
Performance. Profile responsiveness, memory use and CPU‑heavy flows. The goal is an application that stays smooth even when AI interactions are slower or less predictable than ordinary application logic.
Production. Add analytics, logging and feedback capture so AI behaviour can be evaluated from real use. You’ll also own stability, security and production debugging, including root‑cause work when something breaks.

What you’ll bring

Essential:

  • Production Android applications built and maintained in Kotlin.
  • Coroutines or Flow used in a production Android application.
  • AI features you have built on mobile using LLM, vision or speech APIs.
  • REST or gRPC integrations you have built yourself.
  • Performance or memory issues you have profiled and improved.
  • Mobile behaviour you have designed around latency, retries or partial failure.
  • An Android application you have shipped through Google Play.
  • Existing right to work in the UK.

Useful: Java, ML Kit, Tensor Flow Lite, SQL, No

SQL, on‑device inference.

Who this suits

You are probably an Android Engineer, Mobile Engineer or Senior Android Engineer who wants to own the whole client, not work through a narrow feature queue. You have shipped enough mobile software to know that production behaviour matters more than a clean demo.

It won’t suit you if you want a settled spec and predictable behaviour. Here you design for responses that arrive late, in pieces or not at all, and you profile and fix the application when it struggles on a real device.
