Principal AI Engineer – Agentic AI / Developer Platforms

London | Hybrid | Contract

We’re partnering with a leading technology-driven organisation that is taking a genuinely progressive approach to AI within software engineering.

They’re looking for a hands-on Staff / Principal-level Engineer to help shape how AI and coding agents are used across their engineering function.

This is a role for someone who is an experienced software engineer first, with deep practical Agentic AI experience
. You’ll still be writing code, building platforms and solving engineering problems yourself.

• Building shared AI and developer-platform capabilities used by engineering teams
• Creating reusable tooling, SDKs, agent frameworks and engineering patterns
• Using coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor extensively within your own development workflow
• Building and operating MCP, Agentic AI, RAG and multi-agent capabilities
• Establishing evaluation, testing and release controls for AI-generated software
• Improving developer productivity, CI/CD, testing and repository quality
• Designing for enterprise requirements around security, identity, auditability, data integrity and compliance
• Influencing engineering teams through working software and strong technical judgement

We’re particularly interested in engineers who have a strong commercial software engineering background and can demonstrate that they have personally built and shipped production systems.

Ideally, you’ll have experience across areas such as:

• Staff / Principal Software Engineering
• Python and modern software engineering
• Agentic AI and coding agents
• Claude Code / Codex / Cursor
• MCP
• Lang Graph or similar orchestration frameworks
• RAG and context engineering
• LLM evaluation and regression testing
• Developer platforms and internal tooling
• CI/CD, observability and production operations
• Security, authentication and enterprise identity
