The City of Centralia is seeking a motivated, community-minded individual to serve as our next Code Enforcement Officer. This position plays an important role in keeping Centralia a clean, safe, and welcoming community by enforcing municipal codes and ordinances related to property maintenance, nuisance abatement, and zoning — as well as managing animal control services.
Working under the direction of the City Administrator, the Community Compliance Officer responds to citizen concerns, conducts inspections, investigates code and animal control complaints, and promotes voluntary compliance through education and communication. The position also handles stray and dangerous animal reports, ensures humane capture and transport, and coordinates with veterinarians, shelters, and law enforcement partners.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent (additional coursework in law enforcement, public administration, or building trades preferred)
- Valid Missouri driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment with tact and professionalism
- Must be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen, and have no felony convictions
- Ability to obtain certification in Code Enforcement and Animal Control within established time frames
Status: Full-time, Non-exempt

Pay Range: $18.47 – $23.22 per hour (Grade
F)
Reports To: City Administrator
