AECOM is seeking a Senior Engineer - Mechanical (Fire), Data Centers to be based in South Africa's Enterprise Capabilities office in Centurion. This position will support a team locally based in South Africa and Global Teams, offering a flexible hybrid work arrangement that accommodates both office and out-of-office work schedules.

• Conduct assignments in the mechanical engineering field.
• Maintain a very good understanding of building codes and standards.
• Integrate and coordinate designs with other built environment disciplines.
• Understand the statutory processes associated with the built environment and construction industry.
• Plan, organise and manage moderately complex projects.
• Make recommendations on alternate solutions to engineering problems.
• Prepare and present technical plans and reports.
• Institute changes in methods, designs or equipment.
• May be project leader on medium sized projects.
• Collect and analyse information from discipline and interdisciplinary project BIM models.
• Fully develop the design content by applying both design and technical knowledge to ensure the production of high‑quality outputs by following project timelines.
• Participate in the interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables, including BIM spatial reviews (virtual walkthroughs and clash detection).
• Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations, specifications, sketches, diagrams, specific discipline BIM models, drawings, reports, and tender documents.
• Identify discrepancies in results and propose an approach to solve new problems encountered.
• Perform work under the agreed‑upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
• Maintain and develop the highest level of technical skills and abilities, ensuring the quality of model production by BIM/CAD teams for accuracy to design instructions.
• Coordinate with authorities for scheme approvals.

• Build and maintain client relationships.
• Attend client meetings as technical support to gather information and discuss project requirements, explain/ defend work, etc.
• Participate in the development and preparation of bids and proposals—displaying the ability to present solutions to clients in a professional and technically competent manner.

• BSc Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 8+ years of experience after obtaining qualification specifically in the built environment.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
• Experience in all three of the main mechanical engineering disciplines (HVAC, Wet Services & Fire) will be advantageous.
