Lead Electrical Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of HV power distribution and transmission substations and overhead lines (33kV–765kV).
• Manage multiple projects, ensuring engineering deliverables, technical specifications, BOQs, calculations, and design documentation are completed to required standards.
• Develop and present concept and detailed designs to clients and technical review forums for approval.
• Coordinate with stakeholders, multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients to ensure successful project execution.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and drafters.
• Support project execution through design reviews, construction support, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning, and resolution of technical queries.
• Prepare tender submissions, EOIs, quotations, and contribute to business development and company growth initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, client, and industry standards throughout project life cycles.

• BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
• 7–10 years’ experience in the design, management, and execution of distribution substations and overhead lines up to 132kV, with mandatory Eskom design experience.
• Strong knowledge of primary plant equipment design, specification, sizing, and selection for substations.
• Proven experience developing and approving design documentation, technical specifications, BOQs, and detailed design packages.
• Proficiency in substation earthing design software such as CDEGS or Autogrid Pro.
• Experience with in consulting, EPC, or Eskom environments; transmission substation and OHL design experience advantageous.
• Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
• Excellent communication, technical report writing, presentation, organizational, and team leadership abilities.
