Job Summary
Closely collaborates with the HoD and Executive Directors:
Civil Engineering in directing, coordinating, initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling, integrating, and closing of Civil Engineering Projects. Drives general Civil Engineering related design and deliverables.
- Lead, manage and guide Engineers, technicians, draughts persons, and delegate work effectively in the Civil Engineering Department.
- Ensure all employees in the team are supplied with the relevant tools required to perform jobs.
- Formulate systems for smooth running of the Civil Engineering section to enable synergy and coherence.
- Design and reporting in Civil Engineering section to meet project objectives.
- Prepare proposals, tenders and contract documents for infrastructure services nationally and internationally.
- Construction monitoring and implementation of site construction work as and when required on a part time basis on at least the following aspects:
- Ensuring compliance with design/specifications and standards.
- Ensuring compliance with programme and all knowledge areas.
- Attending site meetings.
- Preparing reports.
- Do any ad‑hoc office duties as assigned by the HoD:
Civil Engineering. - Guide and train in design and other necessary skills to engineers and technicians to ensure continuous professional development.
- Keep abreast of technology development and research in the field of water and wastewater engineering.
- Coordinate and supervise the production of technical drawings, design and reporting inputs by supporting staff.
- Client liaison including meetings and reporting.
- Compliance with the company’s Quality Management System ISO
9001 requirements. - Assisting with the preparation of requests for proposals, expressions of interest, panel applications and tenders.
- Manage projects and monitor performance and profitability.
Minimum Requirements
- BEng (Civil), or equivalent degree.
- Must be professionally registered or registrable with ECSA as PrEng, and SAICE. Good experience in bulk water and wastewater municipal infrastructure, storm water systems, earthworks, basic road and drainage systems. Some process design experience will be advantageous.
- Experience of managing a team of junior and managers.
- Minimum 15 years in engineering design, management and construction.
- Extensive experience in construction of steel water pipeline, pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works and water treatment plants.
- Minimum 5 years after professional registration (ECSA) or any other recognised professional bodies.
- Proven track record in management and leadership within a consulting firm.
- Legal knowledge of Employee Equity Act, Labour and Employment laws, OHS Act, Design compliance standards.
- Knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, various civil and water design software.
- Driver’s licence is essential.
- Quality Management:
Ensure ISO compliance. - Regular inter‑provincial and international site visits and meetings.
