We are seeking a highly skilled and self‑driven Maintenance Automation Technician – Press Shop to join our Production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance of automation systems through fault finding, continuous improvement, and effective maintenance of production equipment. The role focuses on minimizing downtime, improving system reliability, and supporting production efficiency through technical expertise and innovation.
This position is based in Press Shop – Production (Kariega).
- Take ownership of automation systems during project implementation and operational phases
- Perform failure analysis, fault finding, and implement corrective actions to resolve production stoppages.
- Analyse and document breakdowns to prevent recurrence and ensure knowledge retention.
- Maintain and optimise PLC‑controlled systems, robotics, and automation networks.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Assist with system design, development, and implementation of new processes.
- Ensure adherence to production, safety, and quality standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- National Diploma / Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Have certified training in PLC programming and automation systems (Siemens S7 preferred)
- 3 – 5 years’ industry related experience (preferably at an automation integrator).
- Have detailed working knowledge of vehicle manufacturing processes
- Press Shop exposure would be advantageous
- Strong knowledge of robotics, PLC systems, and automation networks.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings (hardware & software).
- Proficiency in fault finding and use of test equipment.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, SCADA, etc.).
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Good communication and training ability.
