Job Overview:
Our client is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic mechanical engineering team. This position involves designing mechanical equipment used in process plants, such as piping, storage vessels, and pressure vessels. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams and gain exposure to industry design standards, specifications, and professional mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical equipment for process plants, including piping, storage vessels, and pressure vessels.
- Participate in all phases of mechanical projects: planning, concept design, detailed design, manufacturing, quality control, installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Develop 3D concepts for detailed design phases. 3D modelling and review of process plant layouts.
- Reading and interpretation of process and instrumentation diagrams.
- Solve engineering problems using modern analysis software.
- Review of pressure equipment and piping fabrication packs.
- Preparation of piping and valve specifications.
- Mechanical inputs to process equipment datasheets.
- Review of vendor equipment datasheets and drawings.
- Collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects to ensure effective design integration.
- Gain knowledge of industry-specific design standards and specifications.
- Work under the guidance and mentorship of professional engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in mechanical design.
- Proficiency in 3D design and engineering software such as Autodesk Inventor and Plant 3D.
- Experience with piping and pressure vessel design software such as CAEPIPE, CAESAR and PV-Elite will be beneficial.
- Experience with pressure equipment design codes such as ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, SANS 347, EN 13480, EN 13455.
- Registration as a professional engineer at ECSA or working towards it will be beneficial.
- Knowledge of mechanical design principles for process equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
