Position:
Care Coordination Team Leader - Maternity
Location: Centurion, Gauteng
Position
Purpose:
As the Maternity Care Coordination Team Leader, you will lead a team of maternity care coordinators who support beneficiaries through pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum period.
You will drive clinical excellence, oversee operational performance, manage complex escalations, ensure compliance with maternity care standards, and maintain strong relationships with obstetric and maternity care providers. You will play a critical role in improving the quality of care delivered to expectant mothers and their babies.
Experience & Qualifications
:
Registered Nurse (3- or 4‑year qualification) OR health sciences degree — mandatory
3 to 5 years’ experience in:
- Maternity, obstetrics, midwifery, or maternal‑child health
- Managed care, care coordination, or health risk management
- Clinical customer service within the medical scheme or healthcare industry
- Leadership or supervisory experience is advantageous
- Additional maternal‑health‑specific training is beneficial
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of maternity care coordinators
- Oversee maternity care coordination for low‑and‑high‑risk pregnancies
- Review programme reports and monitors key maternal and neonatal health indicators
- Ensure adherence to maternity clinical guidelines, SOPs, and scheme rules
- Manage and resolve complex clinical and operational escalations
- Conduct quality assurance reviews and implement improvement actions
- Support early antenatal bookings, maternal education, and postpartum follow‑up processes
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, hospitals, and multidisciplinary teams
- Guide staff on risk assessment, documentation standards, and clinical decision‑making
- Contribute to operational planning, programme enhancements, and ongoing process improvements
- Strong clinical judgement and maternity‑specific risk assessment skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Leadership capability with experience in coaching and staff development
- Strong decision‑making and conflict‑resolution skills
- High accuracy, attention to detail, and outstanding documentation ability
- Ability to handle sensitive and emotionally complex cases
- Relationship‑building and stakeholder‑engagement strengths
- Computer literacy and comfort with clinical systems
