Our client is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (Intermediate to Senior Level) to join their team on a 3-year fixed-term contract based on-site in Centurion
.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong database professional who enjoys working across enterprise environments, driving database performance, ensuring business continuity, and supporting long-term technology strategies. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring database reliability, performance, scalability, and alignment with business objectives while contributing to system architecture design and strategic technology initiatives.

• Design, implement, maintain, and optimise enterprise database environments.
• Develop and maintain database standards, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure database scalability, availability, and performance.
• Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and deployments.

• Monitor, analyse, and improve database performance.
• Perform advanced query tuning and indexing strategies.
• Identify bottlenecks and implement performance improvement initiatives.
• Optimise storage utilisation and database resource allocation.

• Contribute to solution architecture and infrastructure planning.
• Design database architectures that align with business and technical requirements.
• Evaluate new technologies and recommend architectural improvements.
• Support cloud, hybrid, and on-premises database environments.

• Define and implement database security frameworks.
• Manage user access controls and data protection mechanisms.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, governance, and audit requirements.
• Implement and maintain encryption, monitoring, and security controls.

• Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies.
• Manage disaster recovery planning and testing.
• Ensure high availability and business continuity requirements are met.

• Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and business teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior Database Administrators.
• Participate in project planning and solution design discussions.

• Maintain architecture, configuration, and operational documentation.
• Develop best practices and standards for database environments.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across database operations.

• NQF Level 6 qualification in one of the following:
  • Information Technology
  • Software Development
  • Computer Science
  • Related IT discipline

• 5–8+ years' experience in database administration within enterprise environments.
• Proven experience with database design, optimisation, and management.
• Experience in system architecture design and implementation.
• Strong experience with SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar enterprise database platforms.
• Experience supporting High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) environments.

• Advanced SQL and database performance tuning.
• Database design and data modelling.
• Database administration across multiple platforms.
• High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
• Backup, replication, clustering, and failover technologies.
• Database security and governance.
• System architecture design and implementation.
• Cloud database technologies (Azure, AWS, or similar) advantageous.
• Scripting and automation skills (Power Shell, Python, Bash, or equivalent).
