Computational Biologist - Bioinformatics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Computational Biologist to join their innovative team, focusing on bioinformatics and data analysis in Centurion . This role is critical for interpreting large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, to drive insights in various research areas. You will work at the intersection of biology, computer science, and statistics, developing and applying computational tools to unravel complex biological questions.

• Develop, implement, and optimize algorithms and computational pipelines for the analysis of large biological datasets (e.g., next-generation sequencing data).
• Perform statistical analysis and data mining to identify patterns, trends, and biological insights.
• Collaborate with experimental biologists to design studies, interpret results, and generate hypotheses.
• Visualize complex biological data in an understandable and actionable format.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of databases and computational infrastructure.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in computational biology and bioinformatics techniques.

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Demonstrated experience in analyzing high-throughput biological data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant bioinformatics libraries.
• Strong understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning techniques.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences in Gauteng .
