The City of Ceres is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley, 80 miles south of Sacramento and 95 miles east of San Francisco, in the heart of Stanislaus County. Ceres is in one of the Central Valley's richest and most diverse agricultural areas and is the home of the new $14 million County Agriculture Center. Even the name "Ceres" originates from the Roman goddess of agriculture.

The City enjoys a comfortable climate, with 12 inches of rainfall annually. The average low winter temperature is 38 degrees Fahrenheit, the average high temperature in spring and fall is 85 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average high in the Summer is 90 degrees. The Tuolumne River forms part of the northern boundary. Ceres is a growing community with a heartfelt commitment to retaining its small neighborhood personality.

Businesses, organizations, and nonprofit community service groups band together for a number of activities throughout the year. Events such as the annual Downtown Street Fair in May, summertime concerts in the park, Halloween Fun Festival, and the Christmas Tree Lane opening are well attended by the community. PELLET B AND AGILITY TESTING WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 10, 2026.

ORAL PANEL INTERVIEWS WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 3, 2026.

FINAL INTERVIEWS WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 7, 2026.

POLICE ACADEMY WILL RUN FROMMARCH 2027 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2027.

Under general supervision from higher level supervisory or management staff and from training staff at a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy, this is a non-sworn classification structured for incumbents who have not yet entered or not yet completed the California POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy. Successful completion of a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy, resulting in graduation and certification, enables incumbent to become a probationary sworn Police Officer with the City.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Attend classroom activities, participate in both the learning process and the interactions with students and faculty, resulting in achieving a passing grade on all classroom requirements.
• Complete classroom assignments and projects, as required.
• Participate in physical activities, resulting in achieving a passing grade on the POST physical agility exam.
• Participate in firearms course, resulting in achieving a qualifying score for firearms qualification under California Penal Code Section 832.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public, using principles of good customer service.
