Security Officer - Post Certified - St Bernard Hosp – Chalmette
Ochsner Health is hiring a Security Officer to provide security for patients, employees, and visitors under the supervision of the shift supervisor. The role enforces company policies and performs duties that ensure the safety and security of everyone on site in a courteous and professional manner.
Responsibilities- Enforce all company safety and security rules, regulations and policies on company property.
- Conduct routine inspections of on‑site and off‑site locations.
- Investigate accidents and incidents and report all occurrences in a timely manner.
- Perform safety and security related duties as assigned in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Participate in emergency response and related preparedness drills.
- Maintain required annual certifications and complete training requirements within required time periods.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and adjusting communication style as needed.
- Other related duties as required.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Work Experience:
- 1 year in security, law enforcement, or military.
- Experience as an armed police officer with Louisiana or federal law enforcement, or reserve status accepted.
- Arrest power and assignment in an active law enforcement capacity.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
- Completion of Certified Police Officer Training Policy Academy (state, federal, or military).
- Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification or Military Police equivalent.
- Valid Louisiana driver’s license and clean DMV report.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) and firearms training.
- International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Certification obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Successful completion of the FTO Program within the first 60 days of employment.
- Proficient computer skills for data entry and information retrieval.
- Proficiency with Windows applications and keyboard usage.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Team A Essential Personnel; must report for duty in the event of a disaster.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability).
Medium Work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently. Requires walking or standing for significant periods. Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, hazardous medications, and communicable diseases. Work in a healthcare setting may involve handling hazardous waste.
