University Housing provides an essential element of the Illinois experience, with hundreds of employees across seven units working together to build and maintain safe, healthy and welcoming homes for our residents. With 26 residence halls, three apartment complexes, nine dining locations, multiple storage facilities, miles of sidewalk, a quad and so much more to care for – our Facilities team has its hands full. University Housing Facilities include maintenance, facility planning, engineering, interior design and building service.
Responsibilities- Manage construction, renovation, and maintenance projects with a focus on architectural and MEP systems; oversee budgets, schedules and compliance.
- Provide technical expertise during the design and planning phases; act as liaison between internal stakeholders and external consultants.
- Ensure projects meet University Housing standards and regulatory requirements from conceptualization through completion.
- Prepare, or assist in preparing, architectural and/or MEP drawings and specifications for construction documents, bids, addenda, and change orders; review plans and specifications for feedback.
- Inspect, analyze, survey, troubleshoot and recommend design solutions for general building construction, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, electrical systems and structural work within University Housing facilities.
- Review and verify drawings, specifications and equipment for new construction and renovations to ensure consistency across documents.
- Monitor project progress, schedule, and budgets; provide updates to Housing stakeholders on design and engineering components.
- Verify shop drawings for conformance with contract documents; ensure installation, inspection and testing meet requirements; provide end-of-project punch lists as needed.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations and legal requirements related to architectural and MEP systems.
- Participate in Housing facilities reviews and contribute to the Housing Long Range Facilities Master Plan.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or a closely related field.
- PM I:
Three (3) years of commercial construction management experience; demonstrated experience managing construction projects from design through completion. - Note:
Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
- Master’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Three (3) years knowledge in the application of Architectural or MEP disciplines such as AIA, ASHRAE Commissioning, CPMP, BEAP, and LEED AP BD+C.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Microsoft Project (or similar) software.
- Extensive knowledge of architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems engineering within university housing facilities.
- Working knowledge of State Building, Life Safety, Accessibility, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical and Fire Protection codes.
- Knowledge of BIM processes and LEED requirements related to commissioning and energy management.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of AIA practices, ASHRAE standards and International Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Codes.
- Knowledge of architectural, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC and electrical principles and practices.
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5012 – Construction Project Manager position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search.
